Making Snow Driving Easy, Check out the AutoSock!

Make driving in the snow easier!

We have the best clients and often learn from them about ways to make our lives easier. This time of year driving in the snow in the Seattle area is not pleasant. One of our clients mentioned today that he has been using the AutoSock for many years for making driving in the snow much easier. Check out the YouTube video below. We have not used this product or endorse it, so use at your own risk.

Apparently it has been approved for driving in Washington State as well. See additional winter driving tips below.

The #1 Rule for driving in snow is to stay home – that isn’t an option for NW outdoor Enthusiasts

Here’s a quick guide to prepping and driving up to those winter fun destinations:

Seasonal:

  • Keep a set of cold-weather gear in your car, also include extra food and water, warm and waterproof clothing, durable boots or shoes, a flashlight, a windshield scraper, blankets, medication, a first aid kit, etc.
  • Clear snow and ice from car surfaces before driving. Snow on the hood can blow toward the windshield and block your view.
  • Confirm your tires are properly inflated and have plenty of tread.
  • Fill up your gas tank – if you slide off the road or get stuck behind a pileup, you’ll want plenty of gas – not just to drive, but to run your car’s heater!

Day of:

  • Avoid rush hour traffic – leave earlier or later in the day to avoid delays, and more drivers on the road.
  • Never warm up a vehicle in an enclosed area.
  • Do not use cruise control when driving on slick surfaces like snow and ice.
  • Drive slowly, this includes accelerating and decelerating slowly – this will help you keep control of the vehicle.
  • Drive smoothly – use deliberate, gentle and gradual movements when turning, breaking and accelerating.
  • Don’t stop if you can avoid it, but if you must – allow double the stopping distance when the road is wet, TRIPLE on snow, and even more on ice.

If you have any questions or want to shop out your auto insurance we would be glad to help!
