There is no such thing as a great individual dental insurance. Typically the people that ask specifically for dental coverage have more dental needs. In general a group dental plan has better benefits since they are able to spread the costs across all the employees (especially those that don’t use as much dental services).
The most popular individual dental insurance is Ameritas, as it is cheaper than Delta Dental and has slightly better benefits. However, it generally covers about 75% of dentists, while Delta Dental covers about 95%. If your dentist is in the Ameritas network or you don’t have a dentist by choosing one of their Ameritas network plans you will pay less and get more.
They sell a plan with $1,000 or $2,000 in total benefit per calendar year (we recommend the $2,000 benefit plan as it is only a bit more for twice as much coverage if needed). When you click on the link to search, you will see four plans. The two at the top ($1,000 and $2,000 are the HMO Ameritas only doctor network) are lower cost and can ONLY go to an in-network dentist. You can look up your dentist in the link below to see if they take Ameritas, or when calling your dental office ask them if they take the following networks: Ameritas, Guardian, DentaMax, Aetna, Principal and United Concordia.
The third and fourth plans when looking https://columbiascdentist.com/xanax/ at the quote page simply allows you to go to ANY dentist. They are more expensive, yet still a better deal in most situations than Delta Dental. If you choose one of those PPO plans you can go to any dentist, yet get a larger discount for services for staying in-network.
First of all you can search HERE to see if your dentist is in network. They make it slightly hard to search by doctor and need to click the down arrow as you can see in the picture below. If you go to a dentist with their name highlighted in green you get an even larger discount for services.
