We all see insurance scams all the time. Here are a few tips on how to avoid getting taken. Usually scammers use a popular insurance company name or send an email that looks legitimate with a company name you may even regularly use. It’s always best to look at the full email address, not just the name that it came from. I have never done business with USAA, so to me this is clearly a scam.
See below in the example where it is a random website address. I also circled the hyperlinks they wanted me to click on that would have taken me to another random website separate from the one the email address came from. That is a huge red flag. Often clicking on the links will download spyware that you won’t be able to see that is now on your computer. I use a really good computer security software that detects a site that is flagged as spam or spyware, so even when I occasionally do click on it, my computer is safe. However, there are other ways they can convince you to send them money or pay a bill that does not exist.
Be careful out there and just be aware of what you are clicking on or bills you are paying.
